Ride 21
Silly girl at the water trough
Groomed and tacked up. The jump saddle definitely wants to roll around up top. Why??
Didn't lunge... didn't do much pillar work. Windy...
Super good girl. No spooks or scoots or naughtiness. but super fussy in the bit. turning was lost again. finished with some decent trots though. Doesn't feel great... kind of mincy. hard to tell. tried to video but phone kept blowing off fence and then it finally stayed put but it was angled up too high.
hacked back via jean's driveway. good girl considering jean's horses came cantering up.

Ride 20: Trail riding all by ourselves
I'm so proud of her! She was such a good girl today! She IS growing up! (Mentally!). And... physically. Baby girl got FAT! I really need to drop her grain. She got chonky!
Anyways... today was supposed to be raining all day so I had sort of planned on not riding. But it was mostly scattered showers this morning and then it sort of held off all day. I went to Church with Liz and then met Mike for lunch. And then I went to the grocery store. And then... it was 3ish.. and no rain til 8 pm. So... Let's roll! I debated which horse to bring. I thought I should bring Dan in case I don't get to ride him for 2 weeks (Vet visit tomorrow), but... he's sore and I had to take him off bute, so... I felt sort of mean for doing that. And I probably should have taken Lyric as I'm supposed to be getting her fit and helping her stifles. But I rode her the last two days and she walked away from me when I walked out. Plus, I wanted to take Funny out again. And she didn't walk away from me! Although I had already decided to ride her anyways.
So we went! She loaded right up and when we got to Ashland, Judy and Teller were finishing their ride. We chatted for a bit and then we were on our own. I put the jump saddle on her and... girl!! It was rolling around up top! Ha ha. I think it fits her well, but... I had to tighten the girth a bit as I was sliding around. They were moving trees with the tractor by the arenas at the judges' booths, so... I walked her to the mounting block by the port-o-potties and got on there and we headed down by the lake vs going straight to the XC field. She was great! Not nearly as "cold backed" feeling as the other day but still alert. We hacked down to the lake side and boat house. And I am pretty sure I have been hacking there for at least 10 years and not once... EVER... have I EVER heard any noise coming from that boat house. But today... right as Funny and I walked by, some sort of motor whirred on! I jumped! Funny didn't. Phew... good girl! She was snorting at the boat house too, so I'm doubly surprised she didn't spook! So we carried on and she was wonderful. She walked calmly over the swampy "creek" area by the beavers. Although she did spend a lot of time sniffing. She's part bloodhound too! And then later we crossed the little creek and she just walked over it too. Then we even trotted a little bit!! She was great. She felt a little stuck behind but I'm not sure if it's cause it was slippery out there or what. We just did a short little stint. Then we were walking along and some deer bolted and she spun a 360! But she didn't bolt and she held her ground. She let me talk to her and after a few seconds... she walked calmly on. Good girl! And good on me for sticking that! We walked and headed back towards home. I wouldn't let her go into the lake. It is surprisingly warm out today (67 degrees!) but was getting to be closer to 5 pm and I didn't want to get wet and definitely didn't want my saddle to get wet. Then on the way back to the parking lot, we trotted a little more. She still felt a bit weird... so when we got back to the arenas, I walked in and let her trot two laps to feel. She was a bit tight and definitely dropped her back some. I think she was starting to fatigue too. So I didn't ask for more. I just wanted to make sure she wasn't lame.
She worked up a bit of a sweat though! It's kind of hot and humid today and she is a bit furry. I debated hosing her, but... opted to just towel scrub her. She's gonna get poured on tonight anwyays, so... ;)She loaded right up to go home. Good girl! Thanks for making me smile. Thanks for letting me enjoy the afternoon. Thanks for reminding me that God blessed me with 4 wonderful horses and a wonderful place to ride.
