And trailer homework too

Today was a good day. I had nothing planned other than a ride with Kelli and it was warm and sunshiney after the rain. Now hopefully my rye grass will grow!

After breakfast and some morning chores I went to work the girls. Funny was in the barn and the others were out and about so she got to go first! I love her! She's so sweet and cuddly.

We started off at the trailer and she got groomed and I treated her thrush. How they heck she has thrush with no rain (until the other day)?? But she does. Then we played with trailer loading. She's amazing when Dan's on there first. But without him, she says nope! We spent about maybe 20 minutes with it. Positive reinforcement. She got treats when she went forward and then eventually only when she got closer. We ended with her getting both hind feet on the ramp. Progress!

So then we headed to the arena. We did pillar 1 the whole way there. Then we did all 3 pillars in the arena. I then put the nylon lunging cavesson on her and we lunged and she was so lovely. The leather one is gorgeous and doesn't twist, but holy moly it's heavy. Carrying it up there was a bit exhausting so I started to wonder how that weight affects their head. So we tried the nylon one today. We focused on keeping the hind feet in the same track as the front feet by pushing the shoulders or the barrel out to meet the hinds. And today she was great. She was much softer and looser and tracked more straight. She also was softer in her neck and more low in her neck but also not twisting. yay! Good girl.

I love her so much. And I'm so so excited about her. It's nice to have stuff to do to prepare her for riding but not have the temptation of riding her just yet. It's soooo much harder to do these things with Dan and Lyric because I want to get on! And, Funny too. I can't wait to ride her. But, I also know that she's too young.
