So... apparently Dan was 14.1 at not quite 9 months old. I'm going to measure Funny on her 9th birthday, so we'll see! Or as close to her 9th birthday as I can get. Ha ha.. February doesn't have a 30th this month. I string tested her the other day and she showed as 16.2 to 17 hands!
Anyways... today was a glorious day. I couldn't ride Dan cause he got his hocks injected. So, I decided to take Funny on a pony and then up to the arena. I opted for Fleck this time, so I put the halter on him and the halter on Funny and then sidled Fleck up to the round pen fence and hopped on. She did great. She's a little slow compared to Fleck, who was in fast mode. But she kept in a good position and there wasn't much shenanigans. We walked up to the arena, did a tiny bit of circles and then I got off and let Fleck loose, so that we could go into the arena. For whatever reason, Fleck and Dan decided to take off and were screaming. Funny tried to get silly for a minute but then she decided she was fine and settled. So into the arena we went. We walked around briefly and walked over the ground poles. Then we walked over a cross rail that was only half a cross rail. Then we tried to walk over a cross rail. She picked her feet up in the front but then walked through it in the back. Repeatedly. Doh! So then I tried trotting it. She trotted over the half cross rail but did NOT understand jumping the cross rail. She basically trotted through it. Whoops! We tried a few times and she maybe sort of got the hang of it over the half rail and maybe once, mostly got over the full cross rail. Ugh. This does not bode well for our jumping career! Except I'm pretty sure Dan did the same thing too in the beginning. So then she was breathing fairly hard. Dang girl.. you've got some fitness work to do! To be fair, I was breathing hard too. Ha ha. So then we walked over to the mounting block and I stood up on it. I leaned over her. I even slung a leg over her back. I didn't put any weight on her, but let me leg hover. She was fine. :) So then we did some more walking. We worked on stopping. And then we walked back out of the arena and over to the log on the ground. I wanted to trot her over a solid thing to give her an idea. And it was much smaller than the cross rail too, to be fair. Of course the boys came running up. But we managed to trot over it once. Ha ha. Baby girl was tired! So then I turned her loose. :)
