Poor Fun buns. I thought she was a hair ouchy looking before I left for my acupuncture final but I couldn't really tell. And then when I got home on Sunday evening, I thought I saw it again. And then she looked more sore Monday. Tuesday morning I went to put her on the trailer to ride and when I asked her to walk out of her stall, she was toe touching and 3 legged. Yep... it was there.
She had nicked her coronary band awhile back but now it looked like it had split open. Hmmm... And a bit gunky. I tried to soak her in epsom salts because it looked very much like an abscess and she was warm on that side. But she was NOT having it. She kept waving her leg in the air and standing on the other 3 but wouldn't put her foot down for more than 2 seconds. I finally gave up and just warm hosed it for a few minutes and then smeared it with corona ointment and turned her back out. She wouldn't let me soak it the next day either but it now looked swollen and there was an area that looked like it was going to blow. Plus we had the farrier coming Thursday morning, so...
I gave her some bute to make life better for everyone and she was suprisingly good for Patrick. She was negative on her sole to hoof testers but he agreed that it was likely an abscess secondary to the wound. She almost smelled a little abscessy, but.. we couldn't really get anything out. So he was able to redo her shoes without any drama. He was quite pleased with her foot.
I kept her wound and the area that looked ready to blow moist with furazone or corona and it definitely looked better that afternoon. She was no longer toe touching and was walking flat but was still sore. Then on Friday it looked like it had opened up in a second spot and she was much happier. I still couldn't soak her but she let me hot hose it for a bit and put more meds on. And I bemered her. I lunged her Friday night and she was 90% sound! Yay! I was hoping to ride today (Saturday) but ended up hanging with Mike after riding the other two. I'll try tomorrow if she still looks sound and happy.Oh, and... we were able to see the aurora borealis again!!! Holy cow! Twice in one year! In Georgia! I couldn't see the waves with my naked eye.. this was more just blobs of color change but even with my naked eye I could see a hint of red in the sky! She was the best for posing so I got some cool photos!
