Lunge Day

My plans didn't quite work out how I wanted today for all the horses but I did manage to do what I meant with Funny. I decided that she didn't need to be ridden today. It's still so hot and she's a baby. And, she needs to use her back again and when I'm in the saddle, I don't think she is as much as I'd like her too. So I figured I could make life a little easier for myself and probably benefit her too by doing a lunge day instead of a ride day once a week.

So we did. I was lazy and lunged her in the halter in the round pen, but we had 15 minutes of good work. She went right to work and trotted with her neck soft and her back lifted. She may have been a little on the forehand but not the whole time. And she trotted over some poles too. We also did a little canter and she went a little crazy with that. The left lead especially she kept swapping back and forth behind but I think she was just zooming too hard. She also tripped on the pole that she sent sideways and almost wiped out too! Whooops!

But we finished with some nice soft work. And then she got a rinse cause it's so hot and humid! Good girl.

Then later, a storm was brewing, and I was lunging Dan and he jumped out of the round pen. Three times! And then all got to running like fools.
