Dressage is boring.... so add tantrums!

Oh how I love this monkey! She had me smiling today. I probably should have been cursing or threatening to send her to a cowboy but I just laughed. We were running short on time, although I suppose I could have made it work to go to Ashland with daylight... I was just getting hungry and a little tired of hauling. So we rode at home.

We hacked up to the arena and I didn't really do any lateral work today. We just warmed up and then started trotting. It started out MUCH better and she was really quite good staying underpaced and underpowered. I even had a little bit of connection and it stayed soft and she listened to my half-halts. We did some cantering and those weren't quite as underpaced... I've got to watch that because she is smart and will totally realize I'm not being adamant. We got back a decent trot though but then she started with the tantrums. Lots of head tossing. I just made sure to sit up and not tip forward (which is easier when you risk a nosebleed or black eye) and giggled at her and ignored it. And she eventually gave up and we got some nice work. I did realize very much though how sensitive she is. Tracking left is harder for her, but it's because I'm crooked. When I tip my sternum ever so slightly to the inside, she totally bends easier. And gets softer in her neck and topline. Cool!

We hacked home through the fields and found Dan's missing fly boot and Lyric's missing fly mask. Good pony! I had to get off though to get them. The fly boot was in the back corner so she let me pull her up to the giant tree stump and get on from there. The fly mask was close enough to home that I just stayed off.

Oh how I love her though. She's cute and snuggly in a bad ass way and then... she's such a bad ass jumper... and quite frankly, I think she's going to be an amazing dressage horse too! The whole package! Minus the tail ;) ha!
