We had a lesson today at Kilkenny farms. Laura and Smarty moved there and we missed them so we decided to go jump with them for our lesson. And it was fun.
We tacked up at the trailer and then walked to the indoor to get on and warm up. Funny was a little spooky and acted like she wanted to jump the drain to get into the indoor. Luckily she didn't, though she did scoot over it. Good thing I hadn't gotten on yet! Ha. We walked around a tiny bit and then Jacel was ready so we headed to the outdoor jump arena. It is a pretty tight/small arena with pastures on the fenceline. One of the horses was running the fence line and kept running up to the arena. Funny was a bit spiced at first about it but quickly got over it. But Smarty did not, so Laura had to call the barn owner to come bring that horse in. So then we could get started on our lesson. It was fun, but hard! There's a lot of tight turns in the small arena. And the footing was deep on the edges so we felt a little scrambly at times. But it was good practice.
We figured out that I have to react quicker on the backside so that I can ride softer to the fence and then between fences. I have to keep my hands low, so she can jump more correctly. And I can use my body to ask for turns vs yanking on her face. I also need to ride the inside hindleg to the outside rein and use my corners to help balance. But.. she was super good!
We accidentally did a hard line before we were supposed to. Ha ha... My bad! She nailed it though! It was a diagonal line of skinnies to a large oxer. And she was awesome, even when I lost my stirrup. Whoo hooo! So yeah, lots of fun. And we learned a good bit and corrected some things.
I did giggle because the jumps had some halloween decor up still and she was chewing on them. Not attacking and murdering them like Dan, but she was nosy. Hee hee.
After our lesson we went on fun hack around the property. It's pretty there! Although the geese that were there as we came around the corner almost scared her. But they didn't.
