Well that was fun! Miserably hot and steamy, but fun. I had already ridden Lyric and was so hot and sweaty and wet but I figured I might as well hop on Funny too and get it over with. ;) Because I wasn't sure if I'd have time to ride after meeting friends at 2 pm with Dan. Even though it might be cooler... but it might also be storming, because we've had afternoon/evening thunderstorms too. So, I just decided to do it. And luckily, we had a nice breeze on occasion so that helped! A little bit. But, honestly, I do think it was the hottest when I was on Lyric.
Funny and I hacked up to the arena and she was hungry! She kept snatching at grass. Which is unusual for her, but maybe the fireworks kept her from munching a good bit yesterday. Although, she wasn't that upset, cause we cuddled last night. I went to check on them and they were pretty good about the fireworks. They were on edge but not too worried. But then Jean's interns took the golf cart out in the pasture with the lights on and went running around calling for Jean's horses. It freaked my guys out and they went to running. So when I got out there they were all soaking in sweat and hot. Ugh. They settled but then the intern went out with the ebike and a giant heavy duty flashlight and freaked them out again. Jeepers. Finally they quit and everyone settled down. Funny came over for some ear and head scratches, so we cuddled for a bit. She was a bit nervous about the screaching/screaming fireworks but the big booming ones didn't bother her. Awwww, I love my snuggle bunny.
Anyways, back to today. We warmed up at the walk but I insisted it was a proper walk. And she was mostly good. She's settling into the walk so much quicker. Then once she was good, I picked up the trot and it wasn't bad. We got a nice trot and did some transitions. We played with leg yields and some lengthens again. And she actually was lengthening better today and coming back better today. Yay! We cantered too and got some nice transitions. Both up and down. We played with trot walk trot and sitting trot, and ugh.. we're at least doing it now, but it's so not happy transitions. It's braced and then very tentative. But we will keep working on it. We also played with some halts, because .. we need all the points we can get.
It was a really good ride. She was much better than usual overall and we had some really lovely movements. She was more connected and "in the bridle" today than she has been. Yay!! We're getting it!!
We finished with the reverse gate, which... is NOT easy and it took us some finagling, but we did manage to get it. It just took some time and wiggling. We hacked back home and she got a nice long rinse to cool off. Good girl
