We can pretend anyways. :) Although today was actually quite lovely. It was hot and humid this morning but then it got really cloudy and overcast and the breeze picked up. The humidity dropped! It was quite pleasant. Still hot and humid though, but remarkably better.
I took Funny to Ashland and we did a dressage school before we met Sharon and Baylor for a trail ride. Funny was good today in the arena. She was a little jumpy because there were a lot of people out and about. Two of my friends came out of the woods and stepped on a branch that made a loud crack and Funny about jumped out of her skin. But then she was fine. We worked on soft contact, moving her body, keeping her neck straight out of her withers, and not being quick. She was quite good today. Lots of moments to praise her and she seems to be softening more and bracing left. Although she did fling her head a few times today. I'm not sure if it was bugs, generalized irritation at my riding, or maybe she needs her teeth done. It's been 6 months, but... I guess we'll see if it's a trend or not.
We did some leg yields, some shoulder ins, some figure 8 ten meters, and some shallow counter canter serpentines. And certainly the entire ride wasn't rainbows and butterflies, but we had a lot of good moments.
We finished up before Sharon was ready, but it was hot and humid and despite the cloud cover, Funny was so sweaty. So we walked over to the trailer and Sharon was just about to start lunging. I hopped off to get a drink and let Funny graze while we waited. Then we got back on and headed to the woods. We just walked because that's all Sharon wanted to do and Funny had worked hard too. She was pretty marchy and soft in her topline but by the end she was getting a hair tired I think. We did have a splash in the lake and by the time we got back to the trailer, she was only sweaty under her saddle.
It was nice to get her in the woods for a nice long walk but I was also glad to get to do some arena work. Good pony!
