Ashland dressage

Oooh Funny is in heat. Again! But that doesn't mean we don't work. So we headed off to Ashland. At least maybe being away from home will make it less distracting. (Not that she's horrible when she's in heat anyways).

We got there and Jen was there talking to Caroline so I chatted a good bit. Then I got tacked up and ended up taking a spin to the lake and back with Jen and Wren. It was a good warm up walk because Wren is an arab and has a purposeful walk, so Funny was able to march too. We left them and let them continue on to trail ride and we headed to the arenas. Funny was a little sad about it. I think she really liked Wren. But we got to the arenas just fine.

We had a pretty decent ride. She is still quick but the big empty arena helps. We played with some things and then I looked at the Nov 3 day test and we rode through that. It wasn't terrible. And it was probably passable as is. But definitely not competitive. But at least we can do the movements. Although honestly, it's not that exciting of a test. I wish we had some leg yields or shoulder ins or something. But oh well.

After that we headed back out to the cross country field because I wanted to walk the cross country course before my lesson tomorrow. Caroline's courses tend to be all over the place and it's so much easier to walk them on horseback then on foot. :) So we did. And holy smokes!!! I was a little freaked out. It would have been a fun easy course on Funny, but on Lyric... it's gonna be tough! Probably 80% of the course is shared with novice. But thank goodness we at least didn't have to do the table or the sharkstooth! But the first fence is a decent sized coop on top of the hill, then a roll back down the hill on a slightly angled terrain to a roll top. Then down the hill to a cabin. Good gravy! Eeeks! Guess we'll see how our lesson goes, but I'm super grateful that we are indeed having a lesson first. Anyways, though... back to Funny. We hacked around and then Jen popped back up out of the woods and joined us. She was done, so we just headed back with her. I debated doing a bit more hacking with Funny, but I was getting hungry. And she had worked pretty hard and did her fitness yesterday. So we headed in too.
