Xc schooling at pine top

Well... today was not exactly the day I had hoped for. But it wasn't a bad day either, and I really can't complain, except... I can kind of. Ha ha!

A friend had asked on facebook if anyone wanted to go school at Pine top with her. I replied that I did but wasn't sure I had a voucher because I may have used them all after volunteering. Another friend, who doesn't ride but volunteers all the time offered me hers. AWWW how nice! And the volunteer coordinator, who is also amazing, said that worked, so... we made a plan to go school! Yay!

I mentioned that we hadn't done a ton of jumping lately but I was game and my friend mentioned that her horse was really green so she might not even jump anything. Cool.. no worries. We can still play and have fun. Except... her horse was super nervous when we got there. And he's not great with water, so... we decided to go walk down to the water in hand and let them do that before we got tacked up. So we did. Funny walked in a bit but I didn't want to get my feet wet so we stayed on the edge. And her pony went in fairly quickly and was good. So then we went to get tacked up. Just about as she was ready to climb on, some of my foxhunting clients pulled in to school too. Fun!! They had a big trailer and apparently my friends horse doesn't like loud trailers so he got spooky and jumpy. So then we had to give him time to settle down again and she did some ground work. No big deal.. Funny and I meandered around a little bit and talked to my lovely clients. So then my friend got on and we headed to the field to warm up. Her horse was still super nervous so we decided to just walk around a bit and look at things. So we walked... and walked. And then she wanted to try a few jumps but didn't want me to get too far away, so she trotted a few little ones. And her horse was good but then overjumped one and scared himself. So she took a few minutes and then he relaxed and she got him back over it. Funny and I popped a few of the small jumps around that area but we couldn't get too far away of my friends horse would freak out. So... okay, I get it. But... Funny and I wanted to play!

We tried to do a few more but her horse was just over it so she decided to go through the water and call it quits. Okay... so we went ot the water. Funny and I sat and waited while she worked him through it. And he went in but then scared himself again and so we patiently waited and they got it sorted out. Funny and I joined him in the water a little bit but if we made too much noise he got worried, so we mostly just sat still and tried to not get him more amped up. So then she hopped off and said something like "cool, guess we're done, let's head back". I was like.... um, no... I want to play! I was trying hard to be a good friend, but also.. it's pine top. PINE TOP!! And Funny was feeling good.. and we wanted to go jump ALLLLLL the jumps. And it was a gorgeous day. And not crowded at all. So... I politely asked if she minded if I popped over a few at the water complex area. I said that I would happily walk her back to the trailer so she could untack him and get her rope halter.. or if she wanted to just load him up and go home, then I could hop around a few since the foxhunters were still out and about. She agreed to stick around and let me jump a few, but... to be honest.. it really kind of put a damper on things. It felt very much like we inconvenienced her and she was impatiently waiting. And she probably wasn't... but maybe she actually was. And I get it. It's no fun to hold on to a nervous young horse who may or may not do something stupid in a giant huge open field. So Funny and I took off and jumped a handful of things. And then I wanted to jump that tree branch jump by the water complex so I asked my foxhunting friends who were right there if they minded and they got out of the way. And Funny jumped it awesome! Whoo hooo! At that point my friend was like "cool, you done?". Sigh.. I guess so. :(

I was really tempted to say "no, actually, you go home.. I'm gonna stay and play with the foxhunters", but... I didn't know how close they were to being done and didn't want to invite myself. And while I honestly would have just taken off and jumped a bunch on my own, (stupid, I know.. but it's PINE TOP!!) the owner had pulled up and was chatting with us, so... I decided to behave and just head back in. And Funny hadn't jumped in awhile so I didn't want to overdo it. But dang.. it was so hard to leave those other jumps unjumped on such a gorgeous day on my fabulous jumping pony. Sigh. But also... we got to jump a good amount.. she was great... technically I got a "free" jump school.... my friend stayed safe... Funny didn't get hurt... the weather was gorgeous. So... it's kind of hard to complain. Except I am, because.. it's PINE TOP!!! ha ha.. At least Funny had a good roll after!

And speaking of gorgeous weather.. we had an amazing sunset that night!
